about

Although my late great brother Mike Church and I had recorded a couple of demos, this is the first album I made. What we have here is bunch of early solo songs, and one song each by the three bands I was in around the time. I was a member of The Jones with Mike Church and John Green, I was in Flat Earth with Mike and Scott Cornette, and I was part of Junkflower with Joey Dickson, Scott Everhart, John Hawkins, and Jimi Robison. All those gentlemen, plus Glen Hefner, Mike Randleman and Joe Ashley, played on this album. I had it printed onto CD in 1993, after recording in 1992 at Fantasy Studio in Granite Falls NC. There are two exceptions, "All I Want" by The Jones, was recorded on a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder in my parents' garage, and the amazing "Kenny", which was recorded on a Sears portable cassette box with my wonderfully wild brother on lead stream of consciousness yelling and guitar, and me on the drums. We were pre-teen knuckleheads laughing at everything, specifically for this moment an "Are You A Nerd?" poster in Mike's room. "Kenny" is obviously the greatest song ever recorded, and I probably should have stopped there!
It is what it was...
Although some of the writing here does indeed make me cringe, I do feel like the playing is good, and the trying is definitely there. I had to start somewhere, and this is the document. Thanks for listening.

released July 28, 2023

The Jones, Flat Earth, and Junkflower songs were co-written with my aforementioned bandmates. I wrote the rest, I'm afraid, with the exceptions of a co-write with Scott Everhart on "King Lear Blues", and "Kenny", which Mike , um, "wrote". I do have to credit my brother Mike Church for his technical, idiosyncratic, inspired drum patterns, which definitely shaped arrangements for some of the songs. There have been no amendments to the sound of the original recording, no remastering or anything. This upload is straight from the CD. Recorded mostly in 1992 at Fantasy Studio in Granite Falls NC. Produced by Glen Hefner. Original CD artwork and photography by Erin Query Peters. "Released" in 1993.
